Khia Pieratt, B.S. (she/her) is a Clinical Psychology doctoral student at Northern Arizona University completing her second-year clinical practicum placement at the SOGIA/EBT Center of Arizona. She attained her Associates of Arts degree before graduating high school and completed her Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology at Grand Canyon University Honor’s College. Before entering graduate school, Khia interned at Chandler Regional Hospital, assisting nurses with patient care in the Post-Op and ER departments and volunteered at Southwest Behavioral Health, providing support in the child and adolescent summer program. Khia has spent the past year of her doctoral program working as a therapist-in-training at Biltmore Psychology Services, providing evidence-based individual and couple’s therapy to adults. She especially enjoyed working with trauma survivors, serious mental illness, and the LGBTQ+ community.
During her undergraduate studies, Khia completed a research proposal, exploring how individualistic and collectivistic cultures influence family structure. Now, she is researching the impact of childhood sexual abuse on sexual orientation and gender identity development. She is interested in gaining more knowledge on the unique experiences of diverse clients and how one’s upbringing impacts mental health, relationships, and behavior. Khia is passionate about integrating empirically-based practice into therapy while using a multimodal approach to fit each client’s wants and needs.
In her free time, she enjoys doing aerial yoga, knitting, and spending time with her many pets.
